A Capella University doctoral student in the School of Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences wants to learn about how African American women raised in single-parent homes describe healthy marriages.

The study researcher and participants will meet face-to-face via Skype, I-Phone Face-Time, or Google Hangout.  The study interviews will be carried out via Toll-Free 800-teleconference.  The interviews will only be used for the current study, unless further permission is obtained.

Potential participants must be:

• American raised in the United States or an American-Owned Territory
• female;
• between the ages of 25 and 65-years-old;
• heterosexual;
• raised from 10-years-old, or younger, to adulthood in a single-parent, mother-custodial, home;
• has never bonded with her biological father or surrogate father figure;
• currently in a healthy marriage, and has been, for at least 5 years.

  The interviews will be audio-recorded.  The interviews will be transcribed and used in the study, only identifying each participant by a code name (name, address, age, etc. will not be included in the study).  However, the taped interviews and the transcribed interviews will be kept by the researcher for the next seven years as required by the Internal Review Board.  The interviews will last approximately 30 minutes. 

  Being in this study will not directly help participants.  Information from this study might help researchers help others in the future.   All participants will receive, read, and understand and sign and return Informed Consent Forms 24 hours prior to participating in the study.
