Can you spare a few minutes each week to help your child make healthier eating choices?

Dear Potential Research Participant,

I am a student in high school, and I am very excited to bring to you an iOS app called Fruggie! My intention is to test whether eating habits among children can be improved by playing on this app. Teaching children to eat right from the beginning is a very crucial step towards leading a healthier life and preventing unhealthy weight gain. The app is a game in which the participants are trying to build the food pyramid by collecting specific types of food in certain quantities, while avoiding sugar cubes. The player is trying to only collect the healthier food that comprises the food pyramid. Each level gets progressively harder, but the ultimate goal is to build the food pyramid by eating healthy throughout the game.

 Participants:

• I am looking for 40 children total in the age range of 6-10 years old
• 20 children will be in the control group; 20 children will be in the experimental group
• The study is 6 weeks long, and the children will play the game at least twice a week if they are in the experimental group.
• The children need to have access to either an iPhone 7 or 8, or an iPad Pro 9.7”
• Children in the control group only fill out three surveys with parental consent, over a period of six weeks.
• I have a consent waiver form and a contact information form for the parents of the participants to fill out if the family agrees to participate in the study
• I will use SurveyMonkey to collect data periodically from the participants and to administer pre/post surveys
• IMPORTANT: All the research participants’ identities will be kept private and names will not be disclosed in any part of the research. The surveys are anonymous.
• IMPORTANT: All the children participating in the study (experimental and control groups) will receive gift cards at the end of the study
