Social Media And Body Image

Hello and thank you so much for your consideration! My name is Charlotte Ebner and I am an undergraduate psychology student at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between social media and body image in women, specifically the effects of different valences of messages about bodies and a diversity of body sizes in media, mirroring "body positive" and "thinspiration" trends on Instagram. The study is open to any women who DO NOT have a history of eating disorders or serious body image concerns.

Benefits of the research: potential increase in mood and body image if in one of the positive conditions, contribution to a growing body of knowledge related to social media and body image.
Risks of the research: potential decrease in mood and body image if in one of the negative conditions, where you may see pictures of very thin women and/or messages about self-criticism and weight loss.
You may stop taking the study at any time with no consequences.

In this study you will be asked to complete a survey including demographics, mood and your attitude towards your body. Then you will view 16 Instagram posts before taking another survey about mood and body image. Overall it should take about 15 minutes. If you have any questions about this research you can contact me at lottiezeb210@gmail.com.
Thank you so much!
