Survey For Children With Siblings
My name is Jared Shiff, M.S. and I am a doctoral candidate in psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. For my dissertation research, I am conducting a study entitled, “An Examination of Quality of Life and Perceived Social Support Among Children and Adolescents who have a Sibling with a Cancer Diagnosis.” The purpose of this research study is to measure aspects of quality of life and social support in children/adolescents. The study aims to provide useful information to help support siblings of individuals with cancer. There will be a second comparison group of participants in this study who do not have a sibling with cancer.
Participants must be between the ages of 8-18 and in grade levels 3rd-12th.
- One group of participants will include healthy children and adolescents who have a sibling (can be either a child/adolescent or adult sibling) with cancer or who is a cancer survivor. *Note: children and adolescents must already have knowledge of their sibling’s cancer diagnosis as this study will inform them.
- A second group of participants will include healthy children and adolescents who have healthy siblings without a chronic medical condition (e.g. cancer, diabetes, etc.).
Multiple siblings from the same household are welcome to participate. Siblings can include biological or adopted siblings, half-siblings, step-siblings, and/or foster-siblings.
If the above enrollment criteria are met, please consider participating. Participation in this research includes completing several anonymous questionnaires online via Survey Monkey. The surveys take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete. The surveys will also be made available in paper format should you prefer. Participation is voluntary. Upon completion of the surveys, each child/adolescent participant will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. There will be a cap of 30 participants in each of the two groups.
